We never knew who “Henry” was. Perhaps the flowers were planted in memory of a man who used to live there whose name was Henry. Perhaps the flowers were simply planted by a man named Henry who thoroughly enjoyed having some fun. The fact is, we don’t know anything about Henry other than that his name is planted in that yard. \Each year we looked forward to seeing “Henry.”
Recently we noticed that the house where Henry “lives” is for sale. Nolensville Road is changing drastically and more than likely this lovely little house, which was once on the edge of Nashville, will be torn down for some retail establishment. And when that happens, “Henry” will cease to exist. What we always thought was a rite of spring will be gone forever.
This month we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. This, however, is far more than just remembering that life is renewed or started over each year. The name “Jesus” means there is life for eternity for when Jesus rose from the grave, it meant that death was no longer the victor. It meant life, everlasting life, was now a reality for those who believe in Him.
“Henry” reminded us that each year life begins anew. Jesus doesn’t only remind us, but is the basis of life that is now and forevermore changed to life eternal. That is worth celebrating and that is worth living.
